The scent of her perfume enveloped the pair,
as they danced,
soft music filled the air,
they were in a romantic trance,
their hearts were beating rhythmically,
close together with no distance,
not a chance,
love intensified,
he felt electrified,
and she was satisfied,
they were thrilled to be alive,
as he closed his eyes,
he felt her warm cheek
brush against his,
his knees felt weak,
and only her eyes would speak,
holding her close was pure delight,
as the night’s sky
illuminated the room through an overhead skylight,
it was a beautiful sight,
she had so much fun,
their two shadows melted into one,
their dancing continued,
and the love they were sharing,
was so caring,
then their kisses,
It was so daring,
that was quite a show,
but it all happened over fifty years ago,
they have a past,
the memories would last,
she was the love of his life,
his beautiful wife.

The Night Sky, I saw this on your tweet and I had to check it out, I have to be honest I thought it was just another love poem so I stopped reading half way until I read the comments above, different comments one said thoughtful and the other said she didn't expect the ending, so I finished it, wow, crazy different, thoughtful I don't know what that skyguy was reading thoughtful, no, almost chilling how do i read more of your stuff?

Using the flashback as the bulk of the poem really made the ending so much more effective. Voted up and awesome.
This poem is awesome!! The ending is so unexpected but I think it's a very thoughtful and profound way to end. When you loose someone you love, the memories of your happiest times together are the most powerful - to the point that you can feel you are almost back there with them again, before reality brings all crashing back down again! Have bookmarked as a favourite - I loved this!

I was feeling the dance and the relationship. I recall dancing that way one night in a bar with the love of my life. So this rang a romantic bell with me. Then....a cymbal shook the earth. You really know how to set the scene and set up the reader.
